Nutrition and Skin Care: What You Need to Know for Radiant Skin

on Jun 01, 2025
As a skin therapist, I often get asked: "What can I eat to improve my skin?" Often, the emphasis is on external skin care, such as creams, serums and masks. But what many people don't know is that nutrition plays a huge role in the health and appearance of your skin. Your skin is the largest organ in your body and needs the right nutrients to function optimally. In this blog, I share which nutrients are essential for your skin and how you can incorporate them into your daily diet for a radiant skin. Antioxidants: the protectors of your skin Antioxidants help protect your skin from harmful external influences, such as free radicals, which are caused by exposure to sunlight and pollution. Free radicals can damage skin cells and cause premature aging. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps the skin repair damage and promotes collagen production, which gives the skin firmness and elasticity. You can find vitamin C in citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, grapefruit, but also in bell peppers, broccoli and strawberries. Vitamin E is another important antioxidant that protects the skin from sun damage and pollution. It supports the skin barrier and hydrates the skin. You can find vitamin E in nuts, seeds, avocados and vegetable oils. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Food for Hydrated Skin Omega-3 fatty acids play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy skin barrier. They help keep skin hydrated and can reduce inflammation, which is particularly beneficial for those with sensitive skin or skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Omega-3 fatty acids are mainly found in oily fish, such as salmon, mackerel and herring. Plant sources of omega-3 include chia seeds, flax seeds, walnuts and hemp seeds. Vitamin A: essential for cell renewal Vitamin A, also known as retinol, is essential for the repair and renewal of skin cells. It helps keep skin healthy by promoting cell renewal and regulating keratinization, resulting in smooth and clear skin. You can find vitamin A in sweet potatoes, carrots, dark green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale, and yellow vegetables like corn and squash. Zinc: for oily and impure skin Zinc is a mineral that helps repair skin and promote healthy sebum production. It can also reduce inflammation and speed up wound healing, making it especially helpful for those with acne or other skin irritations. Zinc is found in foods such as oysters, beef, pumpkin seeds, cashews, and lentils. Water: the basis of healthy skin Hydration is key to healthy skin. If you don’t drink enough water, your skin can look dry, dull and tired. Water helps skin cells renew themselves and ensures that your skin can optimally absorb all the nutrients it needs. It is recommended to drink 1.5 to 2 liters of water daily, but this can vary depending on your activity level and environment. Remember that you can also get fluids from foods such as cucumber, watermelon, and tomatoes. Polyphenols: the natural protectors Polyphenols are powerful antioxidants that help reduce damage from UV rays and pollution. They help reduce inflammation and promote healthy blood circulation in the skin, which gives a fresh complexion. Polyphenols are found in foods such as green tea, berries, chocolate (dark chocolate with a high cocoa content), and nuts. Probiotics: for a healthy microbiota The health of your skin is closely linked to the health of your gut flora. Probiotics help maintain a healthy balance of good bacteria in your gut, which can translate to healthier skin. Probiotics can help reduce inflammation, which is important for skin conditions like acne and eczema. Probiotics are found in fermented foods such as yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi and miso. Finally, combine nutrition with good skin care While diet plays a huge role in the health of your skin, it is important to emphasize that it is not a substitute for a good skincare routine. A daily routine that cleanses, moisturizes, and protects your skin from UV rays is essential for maintaining healthy skin. By combining a balanced diet with the right skin care products, you can improve the health and appearance of your skin. Remember, healthy skin starts from within!

Why pimples aren't always due to 'bad skin care' – and what you can do

on Apr 24, 2025
As a skin therapist, I often hear: “I take good care of my skin, so why do I still have spots?” An understandable frustration. But spots rarely arise from one simple cause. Various factors such as stress, hormonal fluctuations, exposure to the sun or even invisible build-up of dirt and make-up play a role in the development of impurities. What happens in your skin? For example, stress increases the production of cortisol – a hormone that activates your sebaceous glands. More sebum means more chance of clogging your pores. Combine that with sweat, dust and makeup residue that you may not remove completely at the end of the day, and you have a recipe for breakouts. Even the sun, which many believe reduces acne, can dry out your skin, causing you to produce more sebum in response. The power of targeted, gentle treatment A good skincare routine starts with gentle, effective products that target blemishes without irritating your skin. One product I often refer to as a skin therapist is the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion . This lotion is clinically tested, works fast (even overnight) and is suitable for all skin types – including sensitive skin. Thanks to ingredients such as zinc oxide and salicylic acid , it soothes your skin, reduces inflammation and dries out pimples without affecting the skin barrier. And no, it does not leave a tight or flaky feeling – something that is the case with many acne treatments. Why this product? ✔ Fast acting: often visible results in one night ✔ Works without drying out the skin ✔ In many cases suitable for sensitive skin, although caution is always advised in case of active irritation or eczema ✔ Often recommended by dermatologists If you start tonight, you can see a difference tomorrow. ( Please note: always use according to the instructions and avoid excessive use. )

Ingrown Hairs and Dark Skin: What You Need to Know

on Apr 06, 2025
As a skin therapist, I am very often asked the following question online (and in the treatment room): "Why do I always get those annoying bumps after shaving?" Or: "Help! Those ingrown hairs are causing dark spots on my bikini line, what can I do?" If you recognize yourself in this – especially if you have dark skin – then read on. This blog is written especially for you. What exactly are ingrown hairs? An ingrown hair is simply a hair that does not grow straight up, but curls back into the skin. Your body reacts to this with an inflammation: redness, a bump, sometimes pus... and as the icing on the cake, a dark spot often remains. Not fun. In people with curly or frizzy hair (like many people with dark skin) this happens much faster. These hairs naturally grow in an arc – and can therefore shoot back into the skin more easily. Why is this extra important for dark skin? Dark skin (Fitzpatrick skin type 4 to 6) is beautiful – but also sensitive to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation . This means that after an inflammation (such as an ingrown hair) dark spots can quickly appear. And these spots sometimes remain visible for weeks to months. Your skin therefore heals differently – and also deserves different care. My best tips against ingrown hairs Use a trimmer instead of shaving with a blade Shaving against the grain? A big no-no if you’re prone to ingrown hairs. Instead, use a trimmer that cuts the hair just above the skin. Less chance of curling back = less misery. Exfoliate gently but regularly Use an exfoliant with glycolic or salicylic acid (2-3x per week) to remove dead skin cells and keep pores clear. No harsh scrubs – they can actually be damaging to darker skin types. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate Well-hydrated skin is more flexible and less likely to get irritated. Choose a fragrance-free, soothing cream. Bonus points if it contains niacinamide! Stop picking (I know... hard!) Picking or squeezing ingrown hairs? That will only make it worse. You increase the chance of scarring and dark spots. Instead, use a warm compress and leave your skin alone. What if you already have dark spots? Don't panic - you can do something about that too. Choose products with ingredients that soothe and restore the skin and help fade pigment spots, such as: Niacinamide – helps to even out the skin, soothes redness and works well against hyperpigmentation. Witch Hazel – a gentle hydrolate that helps strengthen and refresh the skin without drying it out. Centella Asiatica (Cica) – a top ingredient if your skin is irritated or sensitive. It supports recovery and soothes inflammation. And don't forget: sun protection is really key! Even (or especially) for dark skin. UV light only makes pigment spots more stubborn - so using an SPF every morning is not a luxury, but a necessity. ☀️🧴 Are you experiencing this problem and would you like personal advice? Protect your skin: Why sunscreen is essential in March

on Mar 01, 2025
The spring sun is starting to shine, temperatures are slowly rising and we are all heading outdoors. But did you know that the sun is already strong enough to damage your skin in March? Many people only think about sunscreen in the summer, but protecting your skin is crucial in early spring. The power of the spring sun Although it may still feel chilly in March, the sun's power is getting stronger. This is because the position of the sun is getting higher and the UV radiation is increasing. UV radiation is present all year round, but in the spring the UV level rises faster than you think. Especially on days with a clear sky and a fresh wind you will notice less quickly that your skin is burning. Order the popular BEAUTY OF JOSEON Matte Sunscreen SPF50+ now Why wear sunscreen in March? Unconscious exposure – In spring we spend more time outdoors, whether it’s taking a walk, sitting on a terrace or gardening. Your skin gets a lot of sunlight without even noticing. Pale winter skin – After winter, your skin is less used to UV radiation, which means you can burn more quickly. Prevention is better than cure – Sun damage can cause wrinkles, pigment spots and even skin cancer in the long term. Starting early with sunscreen helps prevent this. Which sunscreen do you choose? Minimum SPF 30 : For good protection, a sunscreen with a minimum factor of 30 is recommended. Broad spectrum protection : Choose a sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Daily facial care : Consider a day cream with SPF, so you are protected as standard. Water resistant : Useful if you spend a lot of time outdoors or doing sports. Lubricate, lubricate, lubricate! Apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before going outside and reapply every two hours, especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors. Don't forget your ears, hands and neck! Conclusion Don’t be fooled by the fresh air in March: the sun can already be damaging. By using sunscreen now, you protect your skin and reduce the risk of premature skin aging and skin cancer. So grab that sunscreen now and enjoy the spring sun safely!

Winter Skincare: Your Guide for January

on Jan 06, 2025
January is the month of fresh starts – and that goes for your skin too! After the holidays and cold winter days, your skin could use some extra love and attention. Here are our tips to optimize your skincare routine and make your skin glow, even during the coldest month of the year. Hydration is your best friend January is all about hydration. Cold air outdoors and dry indoor heating can dry out your skin. Opt for a rich, nourishing moisturizer with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides. Don’t forget to treat your lips with a nourishing lip balm. Exfoliate wisely Dead skin cells build up more quickly in the winter, which can make your skin look dull. Use a gentle exfoliant, such as an AHA or BHA product, once or twice a week to keep your skin smooth and radiant. Be careful not to exfoliate too often, though; your skin needs time to recover. Keep protecting your skin from the sun Although the sun is less bright in January, UV rays are still damaging. Use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily to prevent premature aging and damage. Nourish your skin from within Give your skin an extra boost by eating healthy. Choose foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, walnuts and chia seeds. Also drink plenty of water and enjoy warm herbal teas to stay hydrated. Extra love for your hands and feet The cold can really dry out your hands and feet. Invest in a good hand cream and apply a rich balm to your feet in the evening. For an intensive treatment, wear cotton gloves or socks after applying the cream. Use a facial oil for extra protection A facial oil can do wonders in January. Apply a few drops over your moisturizer to lock in moisture and protect your skin from the cold. Choose oils like rosehip or marula for their nourishing properties. Mask time! Schedule a weekly “me-time” with a hydrating face mask. Opt for masks with ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter or honey to soothe and deeply nourish your skin. Start the year with radiant skin With these tips, you can keep your skin healthy and radiant in the winter month of January. Give your skincare routine the attention it deserves, and your skin will thank you. Let 2025 be the year you put yourself – and your skin – first. Do you have any specific skincare questions? *We only recommend products we have personally tested and stand behind. We tested the best-selling light therapy masks over the past 3 months . By N atalie Thompson 6 min read CLICK HERE AND DISCOVER THE BEST OPTION We tested 25 LED masks, including models from Qure, Amillja™ Foreverlily, and OmniLux. We then ranked the top 5 options based on the following criteria: Costs We have found great results with LED masks under $200,= and our top pick was actually the lowest priced option! Results We have used these LED masks regularly to determine how long it would take before noticeable results would be seen in reducing wrinkles and sagging. Safe for home use All of these light therapy masks are dermatologist approved and safe for home use. Why Dermatologists Chose Amillja™ Foreverlily LED Mask as the Best Option for At-Home LED Masks €179.95 * We absolutely loved the LED mask, a product that has gained a huge following. It’s also currently on a steep discount, making it the most affordable LED mask you can use at home. This mask is capable of unclogging pores and purifying the skin, while preventing the signs of premature aging from taking over. It also has a section that covers your neck, one of the most overlooked areas for skin aging. - Dermatologically approved for skin safety. - Uses NASA's LED technology for skin treatment. - Uses NASA's LED technology for skin treatment. - Suitable for daily use, with sessions of 15-30 minutes. - Currently available at a reduced price of €179.95. We used it for 20 minutes every day, while Amillja™ Foreverlily suggests using it for 15-30 minutes a day. It was effortless and comfortable, while helping us erase the signs of sun exposure over the years. And no wonder it works so well... It has LED technology that is used by NASA to target pigmentation, redness, dryness and wrinkles. In the end, we couldn't get over how radiant, flawless and beautiful it made our skin! We might call it our second favorite on the list, as it has a comfortable fit and shows promising results, but at this price point of €449,= we felt a bit of sticker shock. Why pay more when you can get the same results for less than €449,=? We thought so! Dr. Dennis Gross €425,= This LED mask really brings the dermatologist's office home. It also looks so futuristic, something my brother would compare to one of his futuristic shows. We definitely liked this FDA-approved wrinkle-fighting device, but we just can't justify the price. It costs $425. No typo. So while it is a great LED mask, you can get the same perfect results for your skin at Amillja™ Foreverlily for less than €250. Omnilux € 349,= Omnilux has an excellent warranty and a comfortable design. It's also a little more realistic with the treatment times, stating you should use it for 10 minutes per session. While we liked how it improved skin tightness, it took a lot longer than the website promises of 3 treatments per week for 4 weeks to see a change. Moreover, the price is still high at €349. Qure € 379,= Qure promises clinical LED precision in just 3 minutes per day. Well, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. Maybe if you use it longer than we tested, but in 12 weeks of 3 minutes a day, not much changed. However, it is clinically safe, so it can't do any harm. However, it retails for €379, making it one of the most expensive options on our list. CLICK HERE AND DISCOVER THE BEST OPTION Reviews I just received my Amillja™ Foreverlily mask. Can anyone advise on the best frequency to use it? Super excited to start my sessions. - Ava Wilson I use the Amillja™ Foreverlily mask a few weeks now and the difference in my skin is just incredible. I am so happy with the results! - Emily Smith Does anyone have any tips on how to get the benefits of the Amillja™ Foreverlily mask? to maximize? Would love some advice. - Grace Johnson I have always had skin problems, but since I started using Amillja™ Foreverlily mask use, I have noticed significant improvements. - Isabella Evans

What is K-Beauty? Everything You Need to Know About Using Korean Beauty Products Nowadays, we can't live without K-Beauty! Whether you're familiar with it or not: K-Beauty - where the 'K' stands for Korean - is rapidly conquering the beauty world. The latest innovations in skin care are increasingly coming from Korea, which of course attracts many curious glances. What exactly is K-Beauty and how can you use it yourself? I'm going to explain it to you. What is K-Beauty? K-Beauty has become a big concept in the beauty world and refers to all beauty products from Korea. These products are known for their innovative formulas and techniques, which are often a lot more advanced than Western products. The goal of K-Beauty? A radiant, healthy skin with a beautiful glow. But that glow doesn’t just happen. In Korean aesthetics, a comprehensive skincare routine is essential, often involving ten or more steps. This goes beyond the standard ritual of makeup remover and moisturizer. A Korean skincare routine includes double cleansing, exfoliating, and layering serums, toners, and creams. How to get started with K-Beauty? A Korean skincare routine is all about carefully layering products, which results in insanely radiant, healthy skin. The secret is in the order: start with the thinnest products and work your way up to the thickest. Always keep your skin slightly damp (this helps the products absorb better), and avoid using a towel after cleansing. Here's a general step-by-step plan for a K-Beauty routine. You can leave out some steps , but double cleansing, toner, moisturizer, and SPF are essential: 1st Remove make-up 2nd Double cleanse (first with an oil base, then with a water base) 3rd Exfoliate 4th Toner 5th Essence 6th Eye Cream 7th Serum 8th Sheet Mask 9th Moisturizer (preferably with ingredients such as snail mucin) 10th SPF (daytime) With this routine you will achieve the glowy skin that K-Beauty promises! How does the K-Beauty routine work? The K-Beauty routine starts with removing your eye makeup and then moves on to double cleansing. First, you use an oil-based cleanser to thoroughly remove impurities and makeup, followed by a water-based cleanser for a deeper cleanse. After cleansing, follow these steps: Exfoliate – for example with skin peeling pads to remove dead skin cells. Toner – balances the skin and prepares it for the next steps. Essence – a light, nourishing fluid that hydrates and prepares the skin for serums and creams. Eye cream – protects and moisturizes the delicate skin around the eyes. Serum , booster or ampoule – a concentrated product for extra care, depending on your skin needs. Sheet mask – for intense hydration and a healthy glow. Moisturizer – nourishes and seals in all previous layers. SPF – provides protection against UV rays (only in the morning). And then there’s your makeup! Short on time? Korean beauty enthusiasts recommend skipping makeup rather than skipping steps in your skincare routine. CC creams or tinted moisturizers are also popular for a light, natural coverage. What is Korean skincare and why is it so loved?

on Oct 23, 2024
What is Korean skincare and why is it so loved? K-Beauty, short for Korean Beauty, has now conquered a permanent place in our bathrooms. Especially the extensive Korean skincare routines and the famous 'glass skin' look have made a big impression. Here we explain what exactly Korean skincare entails and why it has such a large fan base worldwide. Korean skincare, also known as K-Beauty, seems to be a huge trend all of a sudden, but it has been around for a long time and has been popular among beauty fanatics for years. Of course! For example, a well-known beauty expert, when she was mainly involved in skincare, even had her own store with a focus on K-Beauty. Korean skincare is all about an extensive routine, and by extensive we mean really extensive: often about ten to twelve steps. The goal of Korean skincare is an even, radiant complexion without the need for thick layers of foundation. To achieve this, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and cared for. The steps of the routine are as follows: Remove make-up Double cleansing (oil and water based) Exfoliate To show Hydrate Apply eye cream Apply serum Using a sheet mask Moisturize Apply SPF Yes, it's a lot of work, but this routine will help you achieve the coveted "glass skin" – that healthy, glowing complexion that so many people dream of. Why is Korean skincare so popular? The popularity of Korean skincare is mainly due to the sought-after ‘glass skin’ look: a smooth, radiant skin that looks healthy and hydrated. In addition, K-Beauty products are known for their innovative ingredients and advanced techniques. Korean skincare emphasizes skin health, hydration and a clear, even complexion – something we all want. Where to buy Korean skincare in the Netherlands? For Korean skincare products, you can easily go online; with a quick search you will find several webshops with an extensive range of K-Beauty products. In Amsterdam, there are also physical stores such as Laboratory K and Har Haru Beauty in the Nine Streets, which focus entirely on Korean skincare.

Skin aging due to smoking

on Oct 18, 2024
What it does to your skin and how to fix it Smoking has a devastating effect on our skin, and the visible evidence of this aging can be shocking. In 1985, British physician Douglas Model identified the phenomenon of the “smoker’s face”: a face that ages faster due to smoking. But what exactly is a smoker’s face, what causes it, and is the damage reversible? We’re here to tell you more about how smoking ages the skin and what quitting smoking can do for your skin. What is a Smoker's Face? Douglas Model described the smoker's face using several features that often occur together in long-term smokers: Wrinkles and crow's feet around the eyes, cheeks and mouth. Sunken eyes and a sunken appearance due to loss of facial plumpness. Discoloration of the skin, such as a grayish, orange, or purple tint. This 'smoker's face' is caused by the skin being affected by smoking in several ways. Why does smoking cause faster skin aging? Every puff of a cigarette carries toxins such as nicotine and carbon monoxide, which deeply affect your skin: Nicotine constricts blood vessels, which limits the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the skin. This makes it harder for the skin to repair itself. Carbon monoxide reduces the oxygen supply through the blood, causing the skin to appear pale. Damage to elastin and collagen fibers leads to a loss of suppleness and elasticity, making wrinkles appear more quickly. Smoking even affects sun protection: research shows that smokers are more likely to burn than non-smokers, probably because their skin is less able to repair itself. Twin Studies: A Compelling Case The strongest evidence for the effect of smoking on skin aging comes from twin studies, which compare twins where one smokes and the other does not. Researchers found that for every 10 years of smoking, a person looks an average of 2.5 years older than their nonsmoking twin. Over decades, that difference can be as much as 10 years older. Quit smoking and improve your skin Good news: quitting smoking can give your skin a new chance. After a few weeks you will often see a difference: A healthier colour and a fresh glow due to improved blood circulation. Smoother skin texture as collagen fibers gradually repair themselves. We recommend taking a photo before you quit and about a month after quitting so you can see for yourself how your skin improves. This image helps many people with their motivation to continue quitting. Professional help with quitting Do you want to prevent premature skin aging due to smoking? Support from a professional increases the chance of long-term success by up to ten times. There are organizations such as Prostop that can help you with effective methods and guidance. Take good care of your skin and treat yourself to a fresh, healthy glow. If you have stopped smoking or want to stop, our skin therapist can give you advice for your skin. Take Care of Your Body: The Best Body Butters for Silky-Soft Skin in Fall

on Oct 16, 2024
Body Butters: Pamper Your Body with Extra Hydration in the Fall As the leaves start to fall and the air gets colder, it’s not just your lips and face that need some extra TLC—the rest of your body does too. Fall can be a challenge for your skin, as the dropping temperatures and dry air can leave your skin feeling dehydrated and flaky. Now is the perfect time to incorporate body butters into your skincare routine. In this blog, you’ll discover what body butters are, why they’re ideal for fall, and how to use them effectively to give your skin the hydration and nourishment it needs. What is a body butter? Body butter is a rich, creamy moisturizing lotion that is typically made with natural oils and butters, such as shea butter, cocoa butter, and coconut oil. It is more concentrated and thicker than traditional body lotions, making it a great choice for those with dry skin or for use during the winter months. Body butters melt upon contact with the skin, creating a luxurious, silky texture that penetrates deep into the skin. Why are body butters perfect for fall? 1. Deep hydration The rich formula of body butters provides long-lasting hydration and helps to retain moisture in the skin. This is especially important in the fall, when humidity drops and your skin can dry out more quickly. 2. Preventing flakiness Body butters help keep skin supple and soft, preventing flakiness and dry patches. They are perfect for moisturizing areas that tend to dry out, such as elbows, knees, and feet. 3. Improve skin texture The nourishing ingredients in body butters help to improve skin texture and provide a silky smooth appearance. Regular use can help to keep skin glowing, even in the colder months. 4. Comfort and luxury Applying body butter is not only good for your skin, but it also feels wonderful. The creamy texture and pleasant scent can provide a moment of self-care and relaxation in your busy daily routine. How to use body butter effectively? Using body butter is simple, but here are some tips to ensure you get the most out of your product: Apply after showering: The best time to apply body butter is after a shower or bath, when your skin is still damp. This helps the hydrating ingredients to penetrate the skin better. Choose the right amount: A small amount of body butter is often enough, because it is concentrated. Start with a small dose and apply more if necessary. Massage into skin: Take the time to massage the body butter into your skin. This stimulates blood circulation and helps the skin to better absorb the nutrients. Pay attention to dry areas: Pay extra attention to dry areas, such as elbows, knees and feet. These areas often need more hydration and can benefit from an extra thick layer of body butter. Store it properly: To maintain its quality and effectiveness, keep your body butter in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or high temperatures. The Best Ingredients to Look for in Body Butters When choosing a body butter, look for the following ingredients for maximum hydration: Shea butter: Rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, shea butter hydrates and softens the skin while providing a protective barrier. Cocoa butter: An excellent source of antioxidants, cocoa butter helps hydrate the skin and improves elasticity. Coconut oil: This versatile oil has moisturizing and antibacterial properties, making it ideal for skin care. Almond oil: Rich in vitamin E, almond oil hydrates the skin and helps reduce irritation. Aloe vera: Known for its soothing properties, aloe vera is great for hydrating the skin and reducing redness. Top 5 Body Butters for Fall Here are some of the best body butters you can try to keep your skin in tip-top condition this fall: 1. The Body Shop Shea Body Butter This rich and nourishing body butter is perfect for dry skin types. It is enriched with 100% pure shea butter and hydrates the skin for up to 72 hours. 2. L'Occitane Almond Milk Concentrate This luxurious body butter has a light texture and is enriched with almond milk and oil. It intensively hydrates the skin and leaves a subtle, delicious scent. 3. Nivea Smooth Sensation Body Butter A budget-friendly option that keeps skin supple and hydrated, this body butter contains shea butter and is perfect for everyday use. 4. Kiehl's Creme de Corps This ultra-rich moisturizer is loved for its deep hydration. It is ideal for the dry autumn months and has a creamy texture that absorbs quickly into the skin. 5. Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula This body butter is a classic and offers intensive hydration. It contains cocoa butter and vitamin E, making it perfect for improving skin texture and reducing scars. Conclusion: Pamper Your Skin This Fall Fall doesn’t have to mean dry, flaky skin. By incorporating body butters into your daily routine, you can give your skin the extra hydration and care it needs. The rich, nourishing formulas help protect your skin from the elements and keep you looking radiant and healthy, no matter the season. Make caring for your skin a time of self-care and indulgence and enjoy the benefits that body butters have to offer. Want to learn more about skincare and the best products for your skin type? Stay Protected: Why You Should Wear Sunscreen in Fall, Too

on Oct 14, 2024
Sunscreen is also important in the fall to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, which can cause skin aging and skin cancer. Despite the less intense sunlight, UVA and UVB rays are still present and can even cause damage via reflection on cloudy days. Choose a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and broad spectrum protection, apply it every morning and reapply frequently, especially when exercising outdoors. Daily SPF use helps keep your skin healthy, regardless of the season.

A good lip balm is not only a great addition to your skincare routine, but it’s also an essential tool to protect your lips from the elements. In this blog, we’ll discuss why lip balm is so important and give you tips on the best lip balms to use to keep your lips in tip-top condition this fall. Why are your lips vulnerable in autumn? Lips have thin skin without sebaceous glands, making them more susceptible to drying out than other parts of your skin. During fall, humidity drops, which can dry out your lips more quickly. Additionally, cold temperatures and harsh winds can also contribute to flaking and cracking. It’s important to not only moisturize your lips, but also protect them from these external factors. The benefits of lip balm 1. Hydration A good lip balm will hydrate your lips and keep them supple and plump. Ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax are great choices for intense hydration. 2. Protection Lip balm forms a protective layer on your lips that helps to seal in moisture and protect them from the elements. This is especially important in the fall when cold air and wind can wreak havoc on your lips. 3. Softening Many lip balms contain soothing ingredients that help reduce irritation and flaking, leaving your lips feeling soft and smooth again. 4. Nutrition Some lip balms contain vitamin E or other nutrients that nourish your lips and promote their health. The best ingredients for lip balms If you're looking for the perfect fall lip balm, look for these ingredients: Hyaluronic acid: This ingredient helps attract and retain moisture, keeping your lips hydrated. Exfoliate your lips: Give your lips a gentle exfoliation with a lip scrub or toothbrush to remove dead skin cells and smooth the lips. Wear a scarf: Protect your lips from the cold wind by wearing a scarf around your neck so that your lips are not exposed to the elements. Radiate into autumn with a vitamin C serum

on Oct 09, 2024
Vitamin C Serums for a Radiant Autumn Skin With the arrival of fall, we often find ourselves adjusting our skincare routines to accommodate the changing weather conditions. Colder temperatures and drier air can leave our skin looking dull and tired. One powerful way to give your skin a boost is to add vitamin C serums to your daily routine. In this blog, you’ll discover the benefits of vitamin C, why it’s so important for your skin in fall, and how to use it effectively for a radiant complexion. What is Vitamin C? Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a powerful antioxidant found naturally in a variety of foods, including citrus fruits, berries, and green vegetables. It plays a crucial role in the production of collagen, a protein that helps maintain skin elasticity and firmness. Vitamin C is also known for its skin-brightening and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a must-have part of your skincare routine, especially in the fall. Why is vitamin C so important in the fall? 1. Repairing sun damage After all that summer sunshine, your skin may be suffering from sun damage, such as pigment spots and uneven skin tone. Vitamin C helps repair this damage by boosting collagen production and brightening the skin. 2. Firming the skin Incorporating vitamin C into your skincare routine helps to firm the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It stimulates collagen production, making your skin look and feel more youthful. 3. Reduce inflammation Vitamin C has anti-inflammatory properties, making it ideal for soothing irritated or sensitive skin, especially during the fall when skin is more likely to react to the cold and dryness. 4. Boosting skin tone As temperatures drop, your skin can start to look dull. Vitamin C helps restore your skin’s natural glow, giving you a fresh, radiant complexion that’s perfect for the season. How to use vitamin C serum in your skincare routine? Integrating a vitamin C serum into your daily routine is easy. Here are some steps to ensure you get the most out of your serum: Cleanse your skin: Always start with clean skin. Use a gentle cleanser to remove impurities and makeup. Exfoliate if necessary: Exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells, allowing vitamin C to penetrate better, but be careful, especially if you have sensitive skin. Apply the vitamin C serum: Take a few drops of the serum and apply evenly on your face and neck. Gently pat the serum with your fingertips for better absorption. Follow with a moisturizer: After the serum it is important to apply a good moisturizer. This helps to retain hydration and enhance the effect of vitamin C. Ensure sun protection: Vitamin C can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so don't forget to apply a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day. Tips for choosing the right vitamin C serum When choosing a vitamin C serum, there are several things to consider: Concentration: Look for serums with a vitamin C concentration between 10% and 20%. Higher concentrations can be more effective, but can also be more likely to cause irritation, especially for sensitive skin. Stability: Vitamin C is sensitive to air and light, which can degrade it. Choose a serum in a dark, airtight container to ensure stability. Additional ingredients: Look for serums that also contain other effective ingredients, like vitamin E, ferulic acid, or hyaluronic acid, for added hydration and antioxidant benefits. Frequently Asked Questions About Vitamin C Serums Is Vitamin C Safe for All Skin Types? Yes, vitamin C is generally safe for all skin types. However, it is recommended to start with a lower concentration if you have sensitive skin and gradually let your skin get used to higher concentrations. Can I combine vitamin C with other active ingredients? Yes, vitamin C can be combined with other active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and retinol. Make sure to apply products in the correct order and pay attention to how your skin reacts. Conclusion: Boost your skin with vitamin C this fall As the leaves begin to fall and the temperatures drop, it’s the perfect time to give your skin a boost with vitamin C serums. The powerful antioxidants and skin-brightening properties of vitamin C help protect your skin from damage while also improving its natural glow and firmness. By incorporating a vitamin C serum into your routine regularly, you can ensure that your skin stays radiant and healthy, no matter the season. De must-have hydratatieboost: Waarom je een hydraterend serum nodig hebt

The Must-Have Hydration Boost: Why You Need a Hydrating Serum

on Oct 08, 2024
Hydrating Serums: The Power of Hyaluronic Acid in Fall Fall brings with it a drop in temperatures and drier air, which can really impact your skin’s hydration. As you prepare for the colder months, it’s important to adjust your skincare routine to keep your skin healthy and glowing. One of the most effective ways to deeply hydrate your skin is through hydrating serums, with hyaluronic acid as one of the most powerful ingredients. In this blog, we’ll discuss the benefits of hyaluronic acid, why it’s so important in fall, and how to use it effectively. What is hyaluronic acid? Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that is responsible for retaining moisture in the skin, joints and connective tissue. It is a glycosaminoglycan that can hold water up to 1000 times its weight. Because of this, hyaluronic acid plays a crucial role in maintaining the hydration and elasticity of the skin. As we age, the production of hyaluronic acid in our bodies decreases, which can lead to drier, less elastic skin. This makes it all the more important to supplement with hyaluronic acid through your skincare routine. Why is hyaluronic acid important in autumn?  1. Restore moisture loss Humidity drops in the fall, which means your skin loses moisture faster. Hyaluronic acid helps hydrate your skin by attracting and retaining water, which is essential for preventing dryness and flakiness. 2. Improve skin texture With the transition to colder temperatures, your skin can develop a dull and rough texture. Hyaluronic acid helps to smooth and refine the skin by improving hydration, creating a radiant, healthy complexion. 3. Firming the skin The hydrating properties of hyaluronic acid help maintain skin elasticity, which contributes to a more youthful appearance. This is especially important in the fall, when skin is more likely to dry out and lose its firmness. 4. Calm irritation The colder months can irritate the skin, especially if you are in a heated environment. Hyaluronic acid has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to soothe the skin, reducing redness and irritation. How to use hyaluronic acid in your skincare routine? Integrating a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid into your daily routine is easy. Here are some steps to make sure you get the most out of your serum: Cleanse your skin: Always start with clean skin. Use a gentle cleanser to remove impurities and makeup. Exfoliate if necessary: If you exfoliate, do so before applying your serum to remove dead skin cells so your skin is better able to absorb the active ingredients. Apply the serum: Take a few drops of the hyaluronic acid serum and apply evenly to your face and neck. Gently pat the serum into the skin with your fingertips for better absorption. Follow with a moisturizer: After the serum, it is important to apply a moisturizer. This helps to lock in hydration and prevents the moisture attracted by the hyaluronic acid from evaporating. Ensure sun protection: Although the sun is less intense in the fall, it is still important to wear sunscreen when you go outside. This helps protect your skin from UV rays that can damage and dry out the skin. Tips for choosing the right hyaluronic acid serum When choosing a hyaluronic acid serum, there are a few things to look for: Formulation: Choose a serum that contains multiple forms of hyaluronic acid. This ensures that the serum works on different levels of the skin and provides more hydration. Other moisturizing ingredients: Look for serums that contain additional hydrating ingredients, such as glycerin, aloe vera, or ceramides, for added hydration and protection. Avoid harsh ingredients: Avoid serums with harsh or irritating ingredients, especially if you have sensitive skin. Opt for a gentle, hypoallergenic formula that won't further irritate your skin. Frequently Asked Questions About Hyaluronic Acid Is Hyaluronic Acid Safe for All Skin Types? Yes, hyaluronic acid is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin. It is a non-irritating ingredient that helps to hydrate and soothe the skin. Can I combine hyaluronic acid with other active ingredients? Yes, hyaluronic acid can be safely combined with other active ingredients, such as vitamin C, retinol and AHAs. Just make sure to apply the products in the correct order and pay attention to how your skin reacts. Conclusion: Give your skin the hydration it deserves With fall approaching, it’s crucial to provide your skin with the right hydration. Hydrating serums with hyaluronic acid are a powerful addition to your skincare routine, helping to keep your skin supple, hydrated, and radiant, even as the air gets drier. Take the time to choose the right products and take good care of your skin to look your best this fall and winter. Verwijder dode huidcellen: Het belang van exfoliatie in de herfst

Remove Dead Skin Cells: The Importance of Exfoliation in Fall

on Oct 06, 2024
Why Exfoliating Is Important in Fall: Your Key to Glowing Skin Fall brings not only colorful leaves and cooler temperatures, but also changes to your skin. After the warm summer months, your skin can feel dry, dull, and uneven due to sun damage and changing weather conditions. This is the perfect time to make exfoliation a regular part of your skincare routine. But why is exfoliation so important in the fall? In this blog, you’ll discover why exfoliation is essential this time of year and how to do it right to keep your skin glowing and healthy. What is exfoliation and why do you need it? Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells that build up on the surface of your skin. These dead cells can make your skin look dull, rough, and uneven. When you exfoliate regularly, you remove these buildup, leaving your skin smoother and brighter, and your skincare products absorb better. During the summer months, your skin can thicken as a natural reaction to the sun. This means that by the time fall rolls around, the top layer of your skin is often full of dead skin cells. Exfoliating helps remove this layer, leaving you with fresh, renewed skin that can stay better hydrated during the colder months. Why Exfoliating in the Fall is Important Fall is a transitional period where your skin has to adjust to colder, drier air. This can lead to dry, flaky skin that looks dull. Here are a few reasons why exfoliating in the fall is essential: 1. Repairing summer damage After a summer full of sun, your skin may have suffered from sun damage, such as pigment spots, rough texture, or uneven skin tone. Exfoliation helps repair this damage by removing the damaged, dead cells and bringing new, healthy skin cells to the surface. 2. Preparation for intensive hydration Fall is the season to prepare your skin for the cold, dry winter months. Exfoliating prepares your skin to better absorb moisture and nutrients. Hydrating products, such as serums and moisturizers, can do their job better when they are not blocked by a layer of dead skin cells. 3. Brightening dull skin Dry air and wind can make your skin look dull and tired. Regular exfoliation will help your skin regain its natural glow and look fresh and healthy. 4. Prevent clogged pores In the fall, dead skin cells build up faster, which can lead to clogged pores and blemishes. Exfoliating prevents dirt and oil from clogging your pores, which helps maintain smooth, clear skin. Different Types of Exfoliation: Which is Best for Fall? There are two main types of exfoliation: physical and chemical. Both types have their benefits, but which one you choose depends on your skin type and personal preference. Physical exfoliation: This type of exfoliation uses a scrub or cleanser with fine grains to manually remove dead skin cells. Physical exfoliants can include ingredients such as sugar, salt, or ground nutshells. While they can be effective, they can be too harsh for sensitive skin, especially during the colder months when your skin is already more vulnerable. *Best option for fall*: Choose a gentle physical exfoliant with small, round particles that won’t damage your skin. Be careful not to scrub too often to avoid irritation. Chemical exfoliation: Chemical exfoliants use acids or enzymes to loosen and remove dead skin cells. Examples of these ingredients include AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) such as glycolic acid and lactic acid, and BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) such as salicylic acid. These acids are particularly effective at dissolving dead skin cells and stimulating cell turnover without physically abrading the skin. *Best Option for Fall* : Chemical exfoliants are ideal in the fall because they can be gentler on sensitive skin that’s more prone to dryness and irritation. For example, opt for an exfoliant with glycolic or lactic acid for a gentle, effective treatment. How Often Should You Exfoliate in Fall? In the fall, your skin needs some extra attention, but don’t overdo it with exfoliation. Excessive exfoliation can irritate your skin and damage its natural barrier, leading to dryness and sensitivity. Here are some tips for the right frequency: Dry or sensitive skin: Exfoliating once or twice a week is sufficient. Choose a mild chemical exfoliant to avoid irritation. Normal or combination skin: Two to three times a week is ideal. You can use both physical and chemical exfoliants, depending on your preference. Oily or acne-prone skin: Exfoliating three times a week can help remove excess oil and prevent clogged pores. Salicylic acid is a good option for blemish-prone skin. Exfoliation and sun protection: pay attention in the fall! Although the sun may seem less intense in the fall, UV protection is still important, especially after exfoliation. Exfoliation makes your skin more sensitive to the sun because you remove the top layer of skin cells. So remember to wear a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even on cloudy fall days. Conclusion: Give your skin a boost with exfoliation in the fall Fall is the perfect time to give your skin a reset after summer and prepare it for winter. Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells, restores your complexion, and helps keep your skin hydrated. Whether you choose a physical or chemical exfoliant, make sure to do it gently and regularly to keep your skin healthy, radiant, and smooth. Want to know which exfoliant suits your skin best? De voordelen van olie- en balm cleansers voor je huid in het najaar

The Benefits of Oil and Balm Cleansers for Your Fall Skin

on Oct 05, 2024
With fall in full swing and temperatures dropping, your skin’s condition is changing too. Colder air and lower humidity can leave your skin feeling drier and more sensitive, meaning your skincare routine needs some extra TLC. One of the first steps in that routine is your cleanser – and in fall, choosing the right cleanser is essential to keeping your skin in balance. Oil and balm cleansers are perfect for this season, and in this blog, I’ll explain why they’re ideal for fall and how to best use them. Why Your Skin Needs a Gentler Cleanse in Fall During the fall, your skin often becomes more vulnerable due to the harsh winds and drier air. Your skin loses moisture more quickly, and the protective lipid layer that helps keep your skin hydrated is compromised. This means that harsh, foaming cleansers – which often contain surfactants – can dry out your skin and strip away the natural oils that your skin needs to stay hydrated. An overly aggressive cleanser can lead to dry, tight skin, flaking and even irritation. This is why gentle cleansers, such as oil and balm cleansers, are the perfect choice in the fall. How do oil and balm cleansers work? Unlike foaming or gel-based cleansers, oil and balm cleansers work by gently cleansing the skin without stripping away its natural oils. These products contain cleansing oils and emollients that effectively dissolve dirt, excess oil, and even makeup. This happens without drying or irritating the skin, leaving it soft and nourished. What makes oil and balm cleansers so special? Oil attracts oil: One of the basic principles of oil and balm cleansers is that “oil attracts oil.” These cleansers dissolve the dirt and sebum on your skin, along with makeup and SPF, without disrupting the skin barrier. Hydration during cleansing: Because these cleansers are oil-based, they nourish the skin as they cleanse. Instead of leaving a dried-out feeling, your skin feels soft and supple after cleansing. Suitable for all skin types: Despite being oil-based, oil and balm cleansers aren’t just for dry skin. Even those with oily skin can benefit from these cleansers, as they help restore the skin’s natural balance without disrupting sebum production. The Benefits of Oil and Balm Cleansers in Fall 1. Protection against dehydration During the fall, your skin is often exposed to cold outdoor air and dry indoor air from heating systems. This can lead to dehydration and a disrupted skin barrier. Oil and balm cleansers help protect the skin barrier by hydrating and nourishing the skin while cleansing. 2. Mild cleansing without irritation Harsh cleansers can irritate your skin, especially if it’s already sensitive from the cold weather. Oil and balm cleansers are gentler on your skin, removing dirt and impurities without that tight, dry feeling that often occurs after using foaming cleansers. 3. Multifunctional cleaning Oil and balm cleansers are great for removing makeup and SPF without the need for a separate makeup remover. This makes your skincare routine more efficient, which is especially helpful in the fall when you might be using a thicker layer of foundation or a stronger SPF. 4. Restore the skin barrier With their soothing ingredients, oil and balm cleansers help strengthen the skin barrier. This is essential in the fall, when the skin is more sensitive to external influences such as wind and cold. How do you use an oil or balm cleanser? Using an oil or balm cleanser is simple, but slightly different than how you would use a regular foaming cleanser. Here are some steps to get the best results: Apply to dry skin: Apply the oil or balm directly to your dry face. Gently massage the product in circular motions over your skin to loosen makeup, dirt and excess oil. Emulsification: Then add a little water and massage again. The oil or balm will turn into a milky substance that will remove dirt and impurities from your skin without drying it out. Rinse: Rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Optional: Second cleaning: If you’re following a double cleansing routine, you can follow up with a gentle, water-based cleanser to remove any remaining impurities. This is especially helpful for those with oilier skin. Which oil and balm cleansers are suitable? Here are a few ingredients to look for when choosing the right oil or balm cleanser: Jojoba oil: This light oil resembles the skin's natural sebum and hydrates without clogging pores. Avocado oil: A nourishing oil rich in vitamins and minerals, ideal for dry skin types. Shea butter: A commonly used ingredient in balm cleansers for its rich, nourishing properties that help to soften and protect the skin. Vitamin E: An antioxidant often added to protect the skin from free radical damage and to support the skin barrier. Conclusion: Gentle cleansing for the perfect fall routine Switching to an oil or balm cleanser is a smart move for fall. These cleansers help keep your skin supple, nourished, and hydrated during the colder months without disrupting its natural balance. Whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin, gentle cleansing is key to keeping your skin healthy and glowing this fall. Curious about the best products to try? Waarom je huid in de herfst een rijke moisturizer nodig heeft

Why Your Skin Needs a Rich Moisturizer in Fall

on Oct 03, 2024
When fall arrives and temperatures drop, not only does the weather change, but so do your skin’s needs. The crisp air and lower humidity can dry out your skin and leave it vulnerable to irritation. That’s why it’s important to switch up your skincare routine and opt for a richer, more intense moisturizer. But why is that so important? And how do you choose the right products? In this blog, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about rich moisturizers for fall. Why Your Skin Gets Drier in the Fall During the summer, the air is often more humid, which naturally keeps your skin hydrated. But as soon as fall sets in, humidity and temperatures drop, causing the air to become drier. At the same time, we turn on the heating indoors, which dries out the air even more. This means that the moisture in your skin evaporates faster, which can lead to dry, flaky skin and even irritation. Additionally, the transition to colder, harsher weather conditions can cause your skin's natural protective oils to break down more quickly, weakening your skin barrier and accelerating moisture loss. What makes a moisturizer “rich”? A rich moisturizer contains more nourishing and hydrating ingredients than a lighter formula, like you might use in the summer. These heavier creams often have a thicker texture and contain ingredients that help to seal in moisture and protect your skin from drying out. The key ingredients to look for in a rich moisturizer are: Ceramides: These fats (lipids) occur naturally in your skin and help restore and strengthen the skin barrier. They are essential for retaining moisture. Shea butter: Known for its nourishing and moisturizing properties, shea butter is an intensive ingredient especially suitable for dry and sensitive skin. Hyaluronic acid: This powerful ingredient can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, helping to keep skin hydrated for long periods of time. Glycerin: Like hyaluronic acid, glycerin attracts moisture to the skin and retains it it is fixed, which is especially important in autumn and winter. Oils: Natural oils such as argan oil, jojoba oil or squalane help to restore the skin barrier and prevent moisture loss. How to choose the right rich moisturizer? Choosing the right moisturizer depends on your skin type. While everyone benefits from a richer cream in the fall, there are different formulas that work better for certain skin types: For dry skin: Opt for an extra rich, soothing cream with ingredients such as shea butter, ceramides and natural oils. For combination to oily skin: Although your skin may seem to need less moisture, hydration is still important. Choose a light but nourishing cream, for example with hyaluronic acid and ceramides. For sensitive skin: Avoid perfumes and irritating ingredients. Choose a gentle, hypoallergenic formula that soothes and nourishes the skin, such as products with aloe vera or oatmeal. Tips for Applying a Rich Moisturizer It’s not just what you put on your skin that matters, but how you apply it. Here are some tips to get the most out of your rich moisturizer this fall: 1. Apply the moisturizer to slightly damp skin: This helps the cream to penetrate the skin better and ensures that moisture is locked in. 2. Use a serum as a base: Add a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid to your routine before applying your moisturizer for extra hydration. 3. Focus on dry patches: Apply a thicker layer of moisturizer to the parts of your face and body that are most prone to dryness, such as your cheeks, forehead, and elbows. 4. Use a richer formula at night: At night, your skin can use more nourishment and recover from the influences of the day. A night cream with a richer texture helps to calm and restore your skin. Conclusion: Pamper your skin this fall A good rich moisturizer can make the difference between dry, tight skin and a supple, radiant complexion. Protecting and nourishing your skin is crucial during the fall to ensure it stays healthy despite the harsh weather. So invest in a rich cream with hydrating and protective ingredients and give your skin the care it deserves. Want to know which moisturizer suits your skin best? Pink Oktober: zorg voor jezelf, straal van binnenuit

Pink October: take care of yourself, shine from within

on Oct 01, 2024
Pink October: Awareness and Self-Care Month, with a Focus on Skincare** October is known worldwide as 'Pink October' or 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month', a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness. During this period, women are encouraged to regularly perform self-examinations and be aware of the symptoms of breast cancer. In addition to medical awareness, self-care and well-being, including good skincare, is also important. After all, your skin can be an important indicator of your overall health. In this blog, we explore the link between Pink October and the importance of good skincare. The Symbolism of Pink October Since the 1990s, the pink ribbon campaign has become an international symbol for the fight against breast cancer. Actions are organized all over the world to raise money for research, provide support to patients, and educate about prevention. The main goal is to increase awareness and emphasize the importance of early detection. The Connection Between Health and Skincare Our skin is the largest organ in our body and good skin care can contribute to both physical and mental well-being. Although skincare is often associated with beauty, at its core it is about protection and health. Skincare can help prevent irritation, inflammation and dehydration, and contributes to the skin’s recovery, especially when the body is going through stress or illness. In the spirit of Pink October, self-care is essential, and a healthy skincare routine is definitely part of that. Here are a few reasons why skincare plays an important role in self-care, especially during times of stress or recovery. 1. Protection against stress and weather conditions During or after treatment such as chemotherapy or hormonal therapies, the skin can become more sensitive and vulnerable. This is because the skin can lose its natural barrier, making it more susceptible to dryness, redness and irritation. The change of seasons can also affect your skin. In October, the air becomes colder and drier, which can dry out the skin even more. A gentle moisturizer with ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides can help strengthen and hydrate the skin barrier. 2. Self-care and mental well-being Self-care is a form of self-love, and taking care of your skin can be a powerful part of that. The simple act of cleansing, moisturizing, and caring for your skin provides a moment of calm and relaxation. Not only does it help keep your skin healthy, but it can also contribute to better mental well-being. For women who are going through a difficult time due to breast cancer, such routines can help bring back a sense of control and comfort. 3. Recognizing skin changes By following a regular skin care routine, you will get to know your own skin well. This can be helpful in noticing changes in texture, color, or any lumps. Although breast cancer is not always visible on the skin, some symptoms such as changes around the breast or nipple can be noticeable on the skin. Regular self-care can help you to notice early signs. Tips for Sensitive Skin during Pink October For women who are going through medical treatments or are health conscious, it is important to follow a gentle and nourishing skin care routine. Here are some tips for safe and effective skin care: Use gentle, fragrance-free products: Perfumed products can irritate the skin, especially if it is sensitive due to treatments. Choose natural oils and moisturizers: Jojoba oil, almond oil and aloe vera are gentle, moisturizing ingredients that can support the skin barrier. Stay hydrated: Hydration doesn't just come from the outside, it comes from the inside too. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. Protect your skin from the sun: Although October is a cooler month, sun protection is still important. Use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Self-Care as a Daily Habit In addition to raising breast cancer awareness, Pink Oktober invites us to take good care of ourselves, both physically and mentally. A healthy skincare routine can be a daily ritual of self-love. Think of taking a warm bath with nourishing oils, applying a soothing mask or simply massaging a moisturizer into your skin. These small moments of self-care can give your body and mind a boost, especially during stressful times. Strong Together in Pink October Pink October is about being stronger together. Whether it’s through donations, raising awareness or supporting women who are facing breast cancer, every action counts. But don’t forget to take care of yourself too. Skincare is more than just a beauty routine – it’s a way to nurture and support yourself on your journey to wellness.

Essential Skincare Tips for Glowing Skin in Fall

on Oct 01, 2024
Fall skincare items are products that are specifically tailored to your skin’s needs in the fall. During this season, skin often becomes drier due to colder temperatures, lower humidity, and wind, requiring extra care and protection. Some popular fall skincare items include: Rich moisturizers: In autumn, skin often needs a richer, more intensive moisturiser that helps retain moisture and combat dryness. Oil or balm cleansers: Cleansers with oils or balms are gentler on the skin and can help maintain the moisture barrier, ideal for the colder months. Exfoliants: Regular exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, leaving the skin feeling smoother and allowing skincare products to be better absorbed. Serums with moisturizing ingredients: Think hyaluronic acid or glycerin, which help to deeply hydrate the skin and prevent dehydration. Vitamin C serums: These antioxidants protect the skin from environmental damage and keep the skin radiant, even when the weather is gray. Lip balm: Lips tend to become dry and chapped more quickly in the fall, so a nourishing lip balm is essential. Body lotions or butters: For the rest of the body, nourishing lotions or body butters with ingredients such as shea butter and coconut oil are suitable to combat dry spots. Sunscreen: Although the sun seems less intense in the fall, UV rays are still damaging to the skin, so an SPF product remains important. These items will help protect and hydrate your skin, keeping it supple and healthy during the colder, drier fall months.
