January is the month of fresh starts – and that goes for your skin too! After the holidays and cold winter days, your skin could use some extra love and attention. Here are our tips to optimize your skincare routine and make your skin glow, even during the coldest month of the year.
Hydration is your best friend
January is all about hydration. Cold air outdoors and dry indoor heating can dry out your skin. Opt for a rich, nourishing moisturizer with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides. Don’t forget to treat your lips with a nourishing lip balm.
Exfoliate wisely
Dead skin cells build up more quickly in the winter, which can make your skin look dull. Use a gentle exfoliant, such as an AHA or BHA product, once or twice a week to keep your skin smooth and radiant. Be careful not to exfoliate too often, though; your skin needs time to recover.
Keep protecting your skin from the sun
Although the sun is less bright in January, UV rays are still damaging. Use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily to prevent premature aging and damage.
Nourish your skin from within
Give your skin an extra boost by eating healthy. Choose foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, walnuts and chia seeds. Also drink plenty of water and enjoy warm herbal teas to stay hydrated.
Extra love for your hands and feet
The cold can really dry out your hands and feet. Invest in a good hand cream and apply a rich balm to your feet in the evening. For an intensive treatment, wear cotton gloves or socks after applying the cream.
Use a facial oil for extra protection
A facial oil can do wonders in January. Apply a few drops over your moisturizer to lock in moisture and protect your skin from the cold. Choose oils like rosehip or marula for their nourishing properties.
Mask time!
Schedule a weekly “me-time” with a hydrating face mask. Opt for masks with ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter or honey to soothe and deeply nourish your skin.
Start the year with radiant skin
With these tips, you can keep your skin healthy and radiant in the winter month of January. Give your skincare routine the attention it deserves, and your skin will thank you. Let 2025 be the year you put yourself – and your skin – first.
